Delete your Cairn data
Cairn is developed by CappyLabs. This page explains how to delete the data associated with your Cairn identity.
Option 1 — delete it yourself in the app (immediate)
In-app
- Open Cairn.
- Tap the menu (⋮) → Backup & restore.
- Under Danger zone, tap Delete this identity and confirm.
This permanently and immediately deletes your identity and all associated data from the server. It cannot be undone.
Option 2 — request deletion by email
Email
If you can't access the app, email dev@cappylabs.uk with the subject "Cairn data deletion". If you have it, include your device's public key (shown in Backup & restore) so we can locate your data. We complete deletion within 30 days and confirm by reply.
What data is deleted
When your identity is deleted, we permanently remove:
- Your device identity (your public key and display name)
- Your connections (the people you paired with)
- Your shared locations — which are end-to-end encrypted and cannot be read by CappyLabs
- Your pairing requests and presence timestamps (last-seen)
Deletion cascades: removing your identity removes all of the above.
What is kept, and for how long
- We do not retain personal data tied to your identity after deletion.
- Your location content is end-to-end encrypted at all times — CappyLabs never has access to it.
- Routine server security logs (which do not contain your location content) may persist for up to 30 days, then are purged.
- If you self-host your own Cairn server, your data resides only on your server and is removed when you delete your identity there.
